Conflict between Western Nations and Eastern Communist Unions
The Western Nations included the United States, Great Britain, and France. The Communist Eastern Union was led by the Union of Soviet Socialists Republics (USSR). As soon as the final gun shot fell silent at the end of World War II, conflict broke out. Pro-Soviet governments were installed in some of the areas that were seized from the Nazis. These governments were controlled by the USSR. The Western Nations worked to prevent further expansion of the communist beliefs throughout the continent of Europe.
